As most new moms (and dads) can attest, the number of diapers a baby can go through in a day is staggering.

My son is no different.

As much as I like to think he’s special, his butt is not. The average child will go through 7,000 diapers before they’re potty trained.[1] At an average price of $0.20 per diaper, you can expect to spend around $1400. Parents can pass down onesies and walkers, but disposable diapers are not something you can buy used.

No parent should have to stress about the expenses that keep their baby clean and healthy so cutting down costs and finding free diapers, even in small quantities, can really help a family out.

How to Get Free Diapers for Your Baby

There are plenty of ways to get free stuff for your baby, especially diapers, and it doesn’t involve much extra work. If there’s a brand you know you like, stick with that one and look for ways to get more value from it.

1. Request coupons or free diapers by mail

When I was pregnant, I signed up for several registries and newsletters for expectant moms and, without asking, received free samples of diapers and formula in the mail every few weeks until my due date.

Brands spend a lot of money on advertising to new moms and are eager to convert you to a customer. Even if you can’t find free diaper samples by mail, you can easily get coupons from their websites, social media, or by sending a kind email.

2. Order a free trial of diaper samples

You can get free Pampers samples in exchange for reviews of their products through P&G Everyday and the third-party website BzzAgent. Sign up and connect your social media accounts to BzzAgent and if you’re selected, P&G will send you free products.

3. Rewards and loyalty programs

Brand loyalty programs reward you with free baby-related samples for purchasing, reviewing, and sharing about their products on social media. When you find diaper companies you like, it’ll greatly benefit you to stay loyal to those brands and join their rewards programs.

Pampers

If Pampers is your brand, Pampers Rewards members earn points for every purchase of diapers and wipes. When you sign up and log in on the Pampers Club mobile app, you’ll earn 100 points, 50 points for your first scan, and points ranging from five to 240 per package depending on the size and quantity of your purchase.

Instead of scanning your receipt, Pampers Rewards codes are on the packages inside each box, meaning you can earn points even if you receive the diapers as a gift. As long as you have the code, you can earn the points. No purchase necessary.

You can’t get a box of diapers as a reward, but for 5,000 points you can get a $25 gift card to Walmart, Amazon, or buybuyBABY which is enough to get you a box of Pampers Swaddlers at any of those stores.

Huggies

Get a jumbo pack of free Huggies diapers in any size with every 4,000 points earned in the Huggies Rewards program. You’ll get 500 points upon sign up, and 10 points for every dollar you spend on Huggies diapers and wipes.

Huggies Rewards website

You can also earn points for referring friends, taking surveys, reading articles, and linking certain loyalty cards.

All you have to do is download the Huggies Rewards app, log in, and take a picture of your receipt every time you purchase Huggies diapers or wipes.

Seventh Generation

Generation Good, established by Seventh Generation, is a free online community of parents who want to raise their kids in a healthy environment. Members receive special offers and can participate in activities to earn free diapers and other Seventh Generation products.

You can earn points for free products by participating in activities, taking surveys, sharing products on social media, and taking part in discussions.

4. Add diapers to your registry

Registering for diapers is the easiest way to make sure you get free diapers at your baby shower. But that’s not the only reason to register for diapers.

For instance, when you start a baby registry on Amazon, you get a 10% completion discount (15% for Prime members) to finish purchasing qualifying items on your registry. You can use the discount on up to two orders up to 60 days before and after your child’s due date.

Target’s baby registry offers a 15% discount eight weeks before your due date that can be used once in-store and once online. The coupon is good for six months after your due date. Target also offers free gift card promotions in-store when you buy a certain brand or amount of baby items. The brands rotate so always check to see if your brand is part of the promotion.

If you have a registry at buybuyBABY, you’ll receive a 15% off coupon in the mail several weeks before your baby’s due date.

5. Ask your local hospital or doctor’s office

If you give birth in a hospital, the nurses will typically send you home with a pack of diapers. Your pediatrician also has samples of major diaper brands so be sure to ask at your well-baby checkups for a few.

6. Enroll in Amazon Family

Amazon Family offers Prime members exclusive family-oriented coupons, offers, and age-based recommendations.

Amazon Family offers up to 20% off baby diapers

Prime members who join Amazon Family get 20% off diaper subscriptions in addition to the 15% completion discount on their Amazon baby registry.

7. Participate in diaper swaps

Diaper swaps are a great way to get rid of diapers that no longer fit your baby and collect the right size from parents in the same boat. You can find swaps in mom groups on Facebook, church groups, or through local doulas.

And if you can’t find a swap in your area, you can always return unopened packs of diapers to the store and exchange them for the size you need.

8. Try cloth diapers

Cloth diapers are gaining popularity for being a non-toxic, chlorine-free, and more affordable long-term diapering option. They can cost more upfront, but they can reduce your total spending on diapers. And if you reuse them for another baby, you could potentially eliminate your entire diaper budget.

If you’re looking for free cloth diapers, try asking friends on Facebook or sewing your own cloth diapers with free patterns and materials you have around the house.

You can find discounts and sales by following cloth diaper companies on social media, signing up for your favorite brand’s newsletter, and visiting natural parenting expos. You can also find used cloth diapers through mom and breastfeeding groups, Facebook Marketplace, and consignment stores or pop-up sales.

A diaper co-op is another way to save on cloth diapers. In a co-op, a group of people order cloth diapers at the same time to access bulk-quantity pricing. When looking for a co-op, be sure that the brand they’re purchasing from allows co-op purchases because participating in an illegal co-op can void your diapers’ warranty.

9. Combine coupons and sales

If you know anything about couponing, you can easily cut costs on diapers. Combining manufacturer’s coupons with your local store’s coupons or sales can get you free or low-cost diapers.

Sign up for your favorite diaper brands’ newsletters or browse the best coupon websites to find a variety of manufacturer’s coupons. Check your mail, store flyers, and the newspaper for coupons.

10. Scan online marketplaces

Babies grow fast! They’ll often grow out of a size of diapers before they can finish the opened box. When that happens you can find moms selling partially-used packages of diapers on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and the Nextdoor app.

Check the number of diapers compared to the price to ensure the price-per-diaper is cheaper than the store. Also, check your local Buy Nothing group for diapers in sizes you know you’ll need in the future.
